Registration for CentriKid 2015 Opens This Weekend

Registration for CentriKid 2015 is going online this weekend!

Since June 1 falls on a Sunday this year, our Events Registration office will be closed, but the online registration tool will be up and running. Visit CentriKid.com starting June 1 to get first choice of all the camp dates and locations for 2015.

We aren’t quite saying that CentriKid registration is as big of a deal as Black Friday, but the registration links will become active in the middle of the night – 12:01 Central Time is the plan. So set your alarm clocks, and get your fingers ready to do some serious typing!

All kidding aside, we are so excited about serving churches at camp this summer, and we hope to have the privilege of serving many more churches in 2015, too.

Specialized Training Begins Today

Today is a very special day in our camp season. Today our office team and about one-third of our staffers will meet on the campus of Campbellsville University to begin specialized training for camp. Campbellsville has been our site for training for the past several years. When we pull into campus it feels like home. In fact, the picture above is from Google Earth, and if you look closely, you can see CentriKid trucks and vans in the parking lot!

Over the next few days, our camp directors will be reviewing a few camp basics and continuing preparation for camp. Assistant directors will be reviewing the Bible study material and preparing to lead in depth training with the rest of our Bible study leaders. Store managers will be learning how to operate our new cash registers, and they’ll be counting t-shirts. Recreation leaders will be playing games, setting up flags, and putting bandages on pretend boo boos and ouchies. Production leaders will be setting up lights and sound boards, stage hosts will be reviewing scripts and running lines, pastors will be delivering sermons in the “preaching lab,” worship leaders will be singing songs and reviewing motions, and video producers will be capturing all of these moments on film.

Specialized training is a lot of hard work, but it is also a lot of fun. Plus, it is a great opportunity to focus on what really matters. As we each work through our individual tasks and assignments over the next few days, we will also be spending time preparing spiritually, and we’ll be praying for all the kids and adults that will join us at camp this summer. At the end of the day, the reason we work hard to learn games, practice lines, and operate lights is because we want to see everyone that comes to camp have a life-changing encounter with Christ.

We are very excited to welcome the rest of our staffers on Saturday as we ALL come together to continue preparing for the summer, and we are even more excited to welcome campers and adults to 2014 CentriKid Camps in only two more weeks!

Henry received a MA in Christian Studies and a BA in English, both from Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary in Wake Forest, NC. He began working for CentriKid in 2008 and joined the office team in 2012.

New Store Items for 2014!

Earlier in the season, we mentioned some new camp store items that are coming your way in 2014, but now let us show you what all the hype is about! Get excited about the new store items in 2014!

Check out this video of Peach showing you all the coolest new items in the store. Share it with your friends, so they can be part of the excitement.

Also, we will still accept preorders until June 5. You can submit a preorder by filling out this form.  April 14th was the deadline for the absolute guarantee of having exactly what you need, but we will still accept preorders for camper care packages and camp store cards until June 5. We will notify you if we do not have the exact sizes and colors of t-shirts you need.  After June 5, if any camper wishes to order a camper care package, you will need to contact your CentriKid camp director to see if we still have care package items in stock. You can find the correct email address for your specific camp director in your group leader information.

We are so excited about the camp store this year and hope you are, too!

Check Out Our Pre-Camp Devotions

As you prepare to bring your group to camp this summer, you’ll want to download this resource – Before and After Camp Devotions. It’s available on the downloads page under Group Leader Information or by clicking here. It’s a good idea to begin talking with your kids about God’s abundant redemption and getting them excited for a great week of camp.  So, we want to help you do that!

Screen Shot 2014-05-01 at 1.50.31 PM

This resource provides four days of activities to do with your church group before coming to camp. Not only are these activities fun, but they are a great way to introduce the spiritual truths kids will study at camp. You may want to use these activities on a Sunday or Wednesday night, or even at a special pre-camp meeting time with kids and parents. Pair these activities with a time of telling kids exactly what to expect so that they will be ready when they arrive at camp!

Group Leaders, also be sure to go ahead and download the separate resource, 2014 Church Group Devotions, for use during your week at camp! You’ll want to print this out, look over it, and bring it with you as you prepare for your church group time each night of camp.

Use KidEvent Pro for Your Upcoming Summer Activities

Summer is always a busy, busy time of the year! With camps, vacation, special events, retreats, and your ongoing ministry, it hardly leaves time for anything else! While we don’t have the silver bullet that will help solve the business of ministry, we are excited to bring you a new tool that will hopefully make your administrative work easier. Introducing KidEvent Pro!

KidEvent Pro is your all-in-one tool that can handle event registrations, event planning, rolls, schedules, group management, reporting, and much more! KidEvent Pro isn’t limited to handling just one event – now you can manage an unlimited number of events throughout the year!

You may be wondering – does this affect my preparation for CentriKid Camps? The quick answer is no. The beauty of attending CentriKid Camps is that, outside of getting your participants to show up with all of their bags packed and forms completed on the day you depart camp, you leave the rest of the administrative work and planning to our staff! But we all know that camp isn’t your only summer ministry event. When you are planning events within your own ministry team, the amount of work seems to exponentially grow. That is where KidEvent Pro can step in and help. To get a little taste, check out the video below. Then visit kideventpro.com to learn more about what this tool can do for you!

Andy Dukes

Andy serves as Event Coordinator for LifeWay Kids. He graduated from Murray State University in Kentucky. He served on summer staff (Crosspoint & CentriKid) for 7 summers and moved full-time at LifeWay in 2008. Andy's wife, Meghan, is a 2nd grade teacher and they attend Redeemer Church in Hendersonville, TN where he serves both on the worship team and also as a community group leader.

God Can Use Anything to Make an Eternal Difference

I love the saying on the napkins from Moe’s. You can make art out of anything. The same thing is true with God – He can use anything to make an eternal difference.

My favorite moments in a movie tend to be when a small, seemingly insignificant detail turns out to be really important. It may lead to a major turning point, a breakthrough with solving a puzzle, or a change in a relationship.

In life, there are so many opportunities where God can use something we say or do to make a difference. We don’t get the opportunity to sit in the cinema and watch how the whole plot unfolds, but we do have the promise from scripture that God is at work around us. Consider some of the following simple actions that God can use:

  • A kind word – spoken at the right time, this can change the trajectory of someone’s attitude or their whole day, and you never know how God can use that
  • A quick phone call to check in
  • A gentle word – instead of a sharp one
  • A conversation at camp sitting on the sidewalk with a child
  • A simple blog post written to inspire and encourage
  • Five loaves and two fishes, or your lunch
  • An opportunity to serve – a passion for kids ministry can be sparked when an adult begins to help out with kids at church

God is always at work. Be willing to share with others and speak into the lives of those with whom you come in contact. Hopefully an opportunity will come along today!

My Leadership Reading Plan

Reading is so important for leadership growth and personal growth as well. You don’t necessarily need to read the same books that I’m reading, but here are 5 types of books you should consider as you build your leadership reading plan.

  1. Something for growth.  Pick something for spiritual growth or personal growth. This is what strengthens your core as a leader.
  2. Something for enjoyment.  Grab a novel, pick out a fun blog to read every day, or do some research on a hobby.
  3. Something my leader asked me to read.  Several times in my career, my leader has selected a book for me (or for our team), and these books help set the course for our work and align our goals.
  4. Something with my team that I lead.  Much like the books that my leader prescribes, I’ve chosen books along the way to walk through with the CentriKid office team.  These lead to great discussions and also help with unifying our efforts and language as we work together.
  5. Something with another coworker to discuss.  I’ve not done this often, but I am currently working through a book with the sole purpose of discussing it with a co-worker.  It’s a mutual investment opportunity so we can pour into each other.

There are so many good things out there to read.  Don’t get bogged down with picking the perfect book.  Get started reading and you’ll start to enjoy the benefits.   We’ve got a few books we recommend on “The Essential Camp Leadership Reading List.”  Good luck as you develop your leadership reading plan!

CentriKid Listens: Peach T-shirts and Plushes

It is no secret that everyone at CentriKid – group leaders, campers and staffers – LOVES Peach!  For the last 2 years, we’ve all been excited to see what Peach will say and do next in our camp videos. Earlier in the year we evaluated what went well last year and what could be improved. With a little help from our friends, Abbie and Allie, we knew exactly what needed to be done. Look below to see a letter with their suggestions.
