New Years Resolutions: Resolve to Grow

Lose ten pounds.
Always make the bed.
Find a hobby.
Make a better budget.

Do any of those sound familiar to you?

It’s that time of the year again, the time for New Year’s resolutions and great intentions that often fall short a few weeks in. This year, instead of making resolutions to be a better person in one way or another, why not consider making it your goal to do something that will really change your life? Why not consider a list that looks more like this and commit to really seeing it through:

Grow closer to Christ.
Spend more time in the Word.
Lead my family well.
Find an outlet to serve regularly.

As this new year begins, I challenge you to spend a little time in prayer and ask God to reveal areas in which you need to grow. I warn you, it can be painful to allow Him to bring these areas to light, but His heart is to grow you to look more like Him each day.

Prayerfully consider these new “resolutions” and seek to follow through with them. Make a concrete plan, spend time asking for help in prayer, and find accountability. You’ll never be able to reach your goals on your own, but the beauty of grace is that God doesn’t expect you to. Lean into Him to help you and ask each day that He would make you look more like Him. Share your goals with a close friend and have them commit to praying for you, checking in on you, and even calling you out when necessary.
