2021 CentriKid Parent Questions for Kids

June 5, 2019 By jeremyechols

After returning home from camp, plan on letting your child get lots of sleep. (If its your son, have him take a bath and put on clean clothes too!)

A normal conversation looks like this:

PARENT: How was camp?
CAMPER:  fun.
PARENT:  What did you learn?
CAMPER:  stuff…. about God.
PARENT: Well, did you do anything interesting?
CAMPER:  I scored a soccer goal and I drank coke for breakfast!
PARENT:  (sighs and wonders aloud) The best thing you can tell me is about breakfast!??

Kids use a lot of energy at camp, and their bodies are exhausted.  But after they get rest and return to consciousness, we want you to have a plan to ask them all about their camp experience.  Don’t settle for one-word answers…ask these questions and look for opportunities to learn more about what your child learned and how they are growing spiritually from the CentriKid experience.

For summer 2021, the CentriKid Camps theme was “The Discovery” and the key verse we hope every camper and adult memorized is 1 John 2:6.

The one who says he remains in Him should walk just as He walked.

Engage your child with these questions:

  • Tell me about your color team leader?
  • What was your OMC cheer?  Did your team get a lot of points at OMC?
  • What were your favorite parts of Track Times?  What did you learn?
  • What are you going to miss about camp?

Ask these questions about growth:

  • What was your favorite part of Worship?
  • Did you make a decision at camp to do anything differently when you got home, or to live or act differently?
  • Do you have the book you got on the last day, with Time Alone with God in it?  (Encourage your child to use this devotional for the next 4 weeks and ask about what they are reading.)
  • How can I pray for you this week?

Dig Deeper:

  • What was the key verse this week?  What does it mean?
  • Which things can you tell me about from Bible Study?
  • What were some of the things the Camp Pastor talked about?
  • Did camp change you at all?  If so, how?
  • What is God leading you to do?
  • How will you share what you learned at camp with your friends?

We love to see kids grow and ask questions at camp and we know that discipleship doesn’t end after camp!
