Your team…its how you get work done and how you get ministry done. The most effective teams are able to communicate, trust, collaborate, and get reslts. But these things don’t just happen automatically.
Developing communication and trust take time and insight into the individual members. One tool we use with the CentriKid office team is the MBTI personality assessment. There are free versions online and there are paid assessments and analysis that go even deeper. The MBTI tool categorizes each person into 1 of 16 different “types” and then gives some great feedback on each of these personality types. I’ve got a book on my shelf that takes the angle of how to lead and work with each of the 16 different types.
Another tool we’ve used is StrengthsFinder which comes with an online assessment. This tool takes a different approach and gives the top 5 strengths. The premise is that you are most effective if you focus on maximizing your strengths. For leaders there is a companion book called Strengths Based Leadership that gives further direction for leading those on your team with different strengths or combinations of strengths.
You can do this whether you are the leader or a team member. Just set up a time to get together and talk about the results. Give your teammates the opportunity to share what things really identified them well and also the grace to share things they don’t feel like are accurate. When teams get together and openly discuss these type of results, trust grows.
Know your team … communicate better, grow trust, collaborate effectively, and get results.
