People often ask our CentriKid staff how we do what we do. How do we wake up early, go to bed late, go without breaks during the day, stay energized throughout the whole day, travel on weekends, and start one cycle of camp the same day we end another cycle?
Honestly, the answer is simple and found in Colossians 1. Here, Paul speaks of his call “to make the word of God fully known.” In the very last verse of chapter 1, he lets us in on the secret of how he can continue serving the Lord through all of his crazy circumstances and personal sufferings:
“For this I toil, struggling with all his energy that he powerfully works within me.” (Colossians 1:29, ESV)
The answer to all of those questions is that there is no way we can do all of those things. Whenever we are seeking “to make the word of God fully known,” God provides us with all the energy we could ever need. When our hearts are focused on the Lord and what He is doing, we are able to rest in Him even when we’re exerting ourselves physically.
Kids ministry is often crazy and fast-paced. It’s easy to get physically exhausted from all that we have to do. But when we’re constantly seeking to be in the center of God’s will, all the striving and struggling to achieve things in our own power ends, and we can finally just rest in who He is.
So whenever you’re busy, tired, and don’t know how you’ll be able to keep going, remember that sleep and relaxation are good, but the Lord doesn’t call us to a life of comfort and leisure. Instead, He calls us to a life of exertion to the point where we must fully rely on Him to be our energy. Even if you’re busy and have a million things to do, draw near to Him today and see that He is faithful to provide you rest.
