Graffiti 2 Ministries Says Thanks for Your Support

December 23, 2013 By centrikid

Every summer summer at CentriKid Camps we collect a missions offering. Half of the money supports global missions projects with the International Mission Board, and half helps support local projects with the North American Mission Board. In 2013, our local missions project was Graffiti 2 Ministries in New York.

Graffiti 2 Community Ministries seeks to Revitalize, Revive, and Revolutionize the Mott Haven section of the South Bronx and society by enabling individuals to develop physically, mentally (revitalization), emotionally, spiritually, and socially (revival) so that they may become servant-leaders within their families, community, and society (revolution). Originally the plantation home of Gouverneur Morris (penman of the preamble to the Constitution), Mott Haven has become notorious for the difficult urban situations which are faced daily by its residents.

Statistics identify a high density of children who

  • Fail to meet education standards
  • Live in single-parent households
  • Lack adequate nutrition and healthcare
  • Reside in a neighborhood riddled with crime.

The money that you gave in 2013 is making a difference. Be sure to check out this video from Graffiti 2 as they say thanks for all your support.

It’s not too late to contribute to the projects that our missions offering helped support. Check out One Child Project (IMB) and Graffiti 2 Ministries (NAMB) for more information.

Happy Thanksgiving from CentriKid Camps

November 27, 2013 By centrikid

Happy Thanksgiving! Tomorrow is a special time to reflect on the many blessings that God has graciously given. We hope that you enjoy some quality time with family and friends, and we hope you enjoy a couple platefuls of turkey, too.

Over the past few days, we’ve asked many of you to create a hand turkey and tell us all about the things for which you are thankful. Check out some of our favorites below.

As you can see, we have a lot to be thankful for this year. We truly hope that this Thanksgiving is the best yet, and we pray that God will continue to pour out blessings on you as you continue to seek to become more like the image of his Son.

Before you start cooking the turkey, we’d love for you to check out one last hand turkey. We received this amazing video hand turkey from one of our staffers. Be sure to check out this super fun video from Isaac below.

Be Ready

May 24, 2013 By centrikid2018

We’re getting packed up and ready to go here at CentriKid! We’ve been preparing for this for a whole year now, and we’re so excited that it’s finally time to go to camp. As we make final preparations for CentriKid in the office, I’ve realized just how important it is to be ready. We’re focused on wrapping up every tiny detail, so that we’re 100% ready on the day camp starts.

Being ready is something that we in ministry all focus on pretty heavily. We’re always getting ready for a church service, an event, or an activity. The majority of our careers are focused on getting ready for the next thing, but we must also make sure that we are ready in terms of our spiritual lives.

1 Peter 3:15 instructs us to “…always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have…” We are called to be ready to share our faith with anyone at any time. God is going to give us opportunities to share His love with others, and it is extremely important that we are ready to do so when these opportunities arise.

One fact that gives me an incredible amount of peace is that all I have to do is get prepared and be ready and then God will take care of everything else. He doesn’t call us to be ready and then do everything ourselves, but, instead, calls us to be ready and wait for Him to act. We must always realize that it is He who is in control. Our job is to be ready and rely on Him to meet all of our needs. We can all rest assured that He will not let us down.

5 Things I Wish I Had Known Before My 1st Summer

May 2, 2013 By centrikid

This is a guest post by Jessica Scarpa.

If you are a new staffer getting ready for your first summer of camp, there are probably tons of questions racing through your mind about what to expect when you arrive at camp. Here are five things that I wish I had known before my first summer.

5. Bring your vitamins, and take them! Being sick at camp is no fun! You miss out and are stuck in your room if you are sick. Make sure to bring the medicines and vitamins you need to keep you well.
4. You will be a pro at Bible study and Rec! When you first get your manual, you might think, “How am I ever going to learn all this?” No worries! By the end of training you will feel prepared and ready to go.
3. OMC – You will never play another game quite like it. This is the best game in the world. If you love organization, masses of people, and chaos all mixed into one, your life will be forever changed. You have to play it to fully understand.
4. Your team will become your family! You come together with people you have never met, who have the same goal as you (to preach the gospel to kids), and they become your family in two months.  Your team is your support throughout the summer, and some will be your closest friends even after camp.
5. How much I was going to change! I saw God use me and change me last summer. It was an awesome experience to witness kids come to Christ week after week, but one of the most rewarding parts was seeing the changes He made in my personal life. I never expected God to use me as much as He did; all I had to do was be willing.
